It is with deep regret that we have learned of the passing away of one of the HMC's most well-loved members - Saviour Galea...better known as "Salvu Muturi" aged 77.

An expert BSA man, Salvu always went out of his way to help other club members with parts, knowledge or just a helping hand.

Although he was an expert engineer and motorcycle mechanic, Salvu will be best known for his riding style - flat out all the time and everywhere! It didn't matter that he used to ride a small 250cc BSA C15, because according to Salvu, his machine was still the fastest bike in the world!

He was a true gentleman who really appreciated a favour. A few months back I did him a minor good turn and took care of some paperwork and photos to register his Austin 1300 as a classic. Sure enough, he was so appreciative that he insisted on rebuilding a BSA engine for me for free. Alas, ill health prevented him carrying out his promise.

Classic motorcycle enthusiasts all over Malta have similar anecdotes of his generosity and helpfulness. The classic bike escort that took part in his funeral proves it.

In the end he left this world as he used to ride - quickly - which is probably as he would have wanted it.

On behalf of all members of the Historic Motorcycle Club, we give our condolences to his wife Violet & his family. RIP
